Folk art derives its meaning and power from its creator; people who do not necessarily think their creations are objects of art.

Ivy Billiot Bird carvings
Houma Indian Artist Ivy Billiot is well known for his wonderful carvings that are hand painted in a spirited manner. His repetoire includes many fish, birds, and animals familiar to him as a member of the Houma Indian tribe, as well as icons such as cowboys, mermaids, and devils. He creates his carvings out of Tupolo Gum wood, a local material. All carvings are hand carved and hand painted by Ivy Billiot and so sizes and colors may vary.
